the apple doesn't fall far from the tree

My dad and I are soo much alike when it comes to building/making/crafting things that I wanted to share with you one of his current projects. He used to have a really elaborate outdoor train set around our fishpond in the back yard but since we're not in a climate where this can stay year round the outdoor railroad ended up being dismantled and one of the outdoor houses that resembled my parents house sat around in my parents basement for awhile. Fast forward a few years and my dad retiring and then BAM! craft explosion.

Since he has so much free time now and when he can find time in between the jobs my mom has him doing he works on building dioramas of wars with tons and tons of miniature figures and this.... an almost exact replica of their house.. It started out with just a paint job to resemble ours and then my dad found a working miniature light that looks like the light we have on our front lawn, from there it got more and more detailed.

When I gave him a box of extra sculpey I had laying around, things really went crazy. I'm not one for sculpting, I'll make some random things here and there out of sculpey but the things my dad is doing is just wow. We have a suit of armour on our front porch (you can see when I get my eccentricities from) and he made a miniautre one for the model house, along with bird baths, bird feeders complete with birds, our mailbox, etc. And during my visits over there I end up searching online for him and buying him more and more stuff to make the house look even better. So the gargoyle on the front lawn (again eccentric) I bought him a miniature one, and the fench section for the rose garden I found for him.

So enjoy the shots below. I wonder what his next project will be? =)

Annnd yes, my parents house is that color purple.
I grew up in a big Victorian Painted Lady.
