m a k e s m e s m i l e - Little Voice with Jane Horrocks

Posted by Drew Versak in ,

I happened to catch this movie on TV the other day and once I realized that Jane Horrocks was in it (I loved her in Absolutely Fabulous as Patsies assistant) I figured it was worth the watch.
Expecting a comedy when I first tuned in, I was pleasantly surprised that the story was about an impish young woman named L.V. who lives with her slutty mother above a record store of her now deceased father. She spends her days alone, listening to her father’s favorite female vocalists on her record player. When her mother meets a nightclub owner and he hears L.V. sing, he books her to sing at the nightclub and the performance is just WOW… it must be the inner homo in me, but when she sings it's just amazing, and the whole medley she performs is even MORE amazing. She sounds exactly like Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland, Marlene Dietrich, Shirley Bassey and more.. It's not so much that the movie was anything to remember but Jane totally sells this movie, I love when stars sing their own songs in movies and it quickly prompted me to download the soundtrack which has been on repeat on my ipod for the past 3 days…if your feeling down, Jane Horrocks singing "Get Happy" will make all the difference. Go download it now!
