marie antoinette photoshoot
Posted by Drew Versak in drew versak photography, marie antoinette, photoshoot
i got inspired after watching marie antoinette one day so i wanted to do a photoshoot kinda based of the fashions, i wish i had more time to get outfits together but i'm really happy with the end result.. WAY to many bottles of wine though during the shoot..
here's a couple portrait shots messing around during the "sear's portrait studio" photoshoot, nothing special just love the toning..
my friend daniella asked me to take some shots of her so we decided to do it this past sunday... it was supposed to rain but held off all morning so we thought we would have a pretty good chance to get some outdoor shots. well by the time we got ready and set out it was a downpour and we were left driving around thinking of somewhere we could do a shoot, outside, that was abandoned, and had an overhang of some sort so we could stay dry. we found an old abandon bar way down in atco and decided it was the right kind of atmosphere we wanted even though we were gonna get a lil wet. so here are the resulting shots.. i only got to take a few cause the rain kept coming down harder and harder but the ones i got i love... next shoot we hope for less rain and more shots.... i had a ton of locations all planned out so keep an eye out for more...enjoy..
my umbrella flashes came in yesterday and i'm just blown away by how good they are. they weren't that much ($100) compared to all the other ones that start well into the $300s for a name brand set, but these ones are just great. i'm still working out the kinks in figuring out the right flash settings (i havn't used studio flashes since highschool and i don't have a light meter so i'm soley relying on my cameras light metering system) but i've got it to down to where i can kinda control how the final shots end up looking. so a few more tests today and tonight to prepare for tomorrow and i should be all set. its so crazy what a huge impact of using these kind of flashes compared to the flash i was using makes on the final photograph. heres one of the test shots i did last night.
.

i don't know how closely everyone who comes to this site looks at my photographs but you can tell the difference from this one to all the others, it just has that look of professionalism (or is that just me) to it. it's the even lighting and the glint in his eyes that does it for me. i'm still a little nervous about tomorrow but i'm sure i'll be fine.
after a much unwanted break from photography(my own fault really, just wasn't inspired)tonight i'm doing a photoshoot of jewelery and makeup, really dramatic eyes, colorful eyeshadow, extreme closeups of glittery lips, feather eyelashes, lots and lots of bangles and rings and bracelets and anything else i can come up with while shooting.i'm planning on making this an outdoor night shoot so the foreground will be illuminated by the flash and nothing but darkness in the background, so we'll see how this turns out. i'm trying to stray away from my more dark photographs and i'm gonna try to make these a lil more fashion(esqe). on a side note moday we (my fabulous partner in crime fajr, the writer of stylish thought) start our adventure of finding stylish people in the city and taking their photo for a new section of her blog. think your a fashionista? put on your best and keep an eye out for us walking around! the photos from tonight should be up by monday, but i have a busy weekend ahead of me so definitely keep an eye out
so friday the 13th, the same day as the donna hogan shoot, i did a photoshoot with my two friends amy & sam (my models for pretty much every photoshoot I do, we've been friends since 7th grade) and i've come to the conclusion that as much as i treasure our photoshoots together and LOVE getting trashed while doing them, it's time we do a sober shoot, or at least a semi-sober shoot. that night i took over 200 photos, 10 of which were good enough to use. all the pictures are either blurry from me swaying from being drunk (plus i hardly ever use a flash, I prefer the natural light BUT you need to be absolutely still so the shutter can do its thing) or are to under exposed cause I'm trying to set the settings in the dark. soooooo yea it's time we do a shoot first, and then drink afterwards. it's funny also cause out of the 4 shoots we've done so far, amy and sam like to alternate who takes the worst pictures. first it was sam taking amazing pictures for the jewelry photoshoot and amy was moving, the 2nd shoot amy took the better pictures and sam was the one moving… and so on.. so here's a sampling of photos from the past 2 shoots, the out of darkness shoot, and our friday the 13th shoot.
