If you know me you know I go though different spurts of adding things to my collection, a month or two ago it was rocks and minerals, searching the internet for days and days clicking and buying my way to a larger collection. This week it’s been adding stuff to my Mexican folk art collection. I’ve been wanting to add on to my milagros collection since I only have a few now, so I found a great seller on etsy who still makes them the old fashioned way by hand and they were a nice price so I picked up 20 assorted hearts and 25 assorted mix (it includes arms, legs, various body parts, children in prayer, etc) so for under $20 I just added 45 milagros to my collection.. They’re made out of silver and I do love a nice shiny surface, but I would rather these have a patina on them to really bring out the detail so I went to search how to tarnish silver. I found two methods online but I choose to use the 2nd way since it doesn’t use chemicals like the first method. I was a little skeptical at first when I read it but after hard boiling eggs, cutting one open and putting it in a Tupperware container with the Milagros, I woke this morning to find all the milagros were a nice tarnished mess. (I might do a light polish on the top of them to bring back some of the silver and leave some tarnish in the nooks and crannies to really make them pop) I just have my original collection of milagros in a little box but I’m thinking of ways to display them so you can take in the collection as a whole. The set of hearts I’m going to hang from the sombrero of a life size paper mache dia de los muertos skeleton that’s in the process of being made, I never posted photos of it yet so check below to see a shot of him so far. The first shot is the millagros tarnished with the egg yolk method & the second shot are the brand new ones.

This is just what I have done so far, I still need to form the pelvis and 4 bones to finish the arms and legs, plus feet and hand bones. After all that is done I can do the first layer of paper mache and then mold the ribs, face, etc. The chest cavity is going to be a shelf when it's completed.
