My friend Tara and I thought it would be a fun day out if we signed up for the 2009 Northbrook Canoe Challenge, a 9 mile canoe race where all proceeds go towards Cerebral Palsy research. In our mind we thought it would be a nice sunny day with a leisurely trip down the Brandywine Creek... boy we were wrong! It ended up being the weekend where it rained all week long, including the Sunday the race was on. So we stuck it out and did the 9 mile race, in the pouring rain! At first we said we weren't going to race, just take our time and enjoy the day but once we got in the water and I would see a canoe ahead of us I would push Tara to pass them, so in the end we came in 15th place in our category.. 52nd place in the whole race. It was our first time so I'm sorta proud of those numbers but whatever.. it was a lot of fun! We capsized twice and went underwater but since we were already soaked from the rain it wasn't that much of a shock.. We would of had a better time if we didn't capsize the 2nd time, the entire canoe filled with water and we had to drag it to shore to dump it out so the 5 people we passed zoomed right pass us during that..
